Today's weather was on a loop - overcast, sprinkle, light rain, harder rain, repeat. It did this all day. By the time we reached camp, we were pretty much drenched. But we made it - all 20.9 miles (or 23 if you believe Molly's "Map My Run" phone app - and we do). We made it to camp, boarded our bus to the hotel, and limped to our rooms, where we took hot showers and attempted to dry our clothes before tomorrow. It was a great day, and here are some of the highlights:
- Opening ceremonies to celebrate survivors and remember those lost to this disease
- The many degrees of rain we experienced
- Walking with each other
- Eventually not trying to step around puddles and just walking straight through them
- The puddle on the side of the road that everyone got drenched by - when a car drove past and through it and sprayed us all
- Starbucks stop
- CVS stop for some Airborne and Vitamin C
- The supporters along the route
- The Shiloh Baptist Church cheering station
- Eventually arriving at camp and our bus!!
Here's the official route:
Friday: Approximately 21.4 milesThe Washington, D.C. 3-Day
will begin with an inspirational Opening Ceremony at the Westfield
Wheaton Mall. From Wheaton, the route will wander through Kensington and
into the quirky National Seminary Park. We'll pass through the downtown
shops of Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights. Then it's onto
the National Zoo and Embassy Row. We'll travel through the hustle and
bustle of Union Station and the Capitol Hill neighborhoods before
walking into camp at the DC Armory for indoor sleeping and outdoor
dining and fun.
And here's the day in pictures:
