Things Newborns Need

Mainly, a set of gauges, since they lack vocal ability.  For instance:

  • Fuel tank gauge.  Do they need to be fed?  If so, how much?
  • Diaper gauge.  Is it full?  If so, what is it full of?
  • Temperature gauge.  Do they have a fever?  Are their footsies cold?  Is the sleeper warm enough/too warm?
  • Sleepy gauge. Are they tired? Do they need more sleep?  Have they had enough sleep?  How many hours of sleep do they currently need?
  • Temperament gauge.  Are they mad because they're hungry, or tired, or bored, or sick, or just plain ticked off?
  • Symptom gauge.  Is that bump a pimple or a bug bite or a Amazon disease indicator?  Is that rash a simple diaper rash or a reaction to the detergent?
  • Allover Systems Check gauge.  How are things?  What needs to be addressed?
Can you tell it's been awhile since we've had a newborn in the house?

What about a "grandma gauge"? (grandma helping, not enough, too much? grandma advice- too much, not enough?) You get my drift :)
