We're Not Too Far Off ...

Marilyn is here at Disney World. On Tuesday, we will board Disney's new ship, The Dream, for a 5-night cruise. This is the latest of many cruises that we have been on together. We have eaten with the chickens, gotten massages by masseuses with bad attitudes, worn ridiculous looking moo-moos, gone to the movies in our pajamas, and had more than our share of idiotic dining table mates. We expect this cruise to follow suit. And while we have not quite achieved the fashionista statement to the left, I don't think we're too far behind. Seriously.

The Pony Parable

Once upon a time, a little girl had a pony. She was free to ride her pony when she wanted, even several times a day. Her friends were sometimes envious. They would say things like, "You're so lucky to have your own pony," or "I wish I were you and had my own pony." The little girl would smile and nod her head, because she knew while her friends meant what they said, they really wouldn't want her pony or to be her.

Her friends never saw the times her pony bit her when she was trying to feed the pony. They never saw the pony kick her when she was trying to brush the pony's tail. They never had to clean up the stall after the pony kicked over its water bucket and feed trough. And they certainly never had to clean up all the poop that pony could poop. The little girl knew if her friends knew all the work that went behind having your own pony, they would probably be thankful that they didn't have a pony after all.

Besides, the little girl often looked at her friends and wished she had a pet puppy like one of her friends, or a little sister like another friend, or a swimming pool like another friend. Sometimes she had to remind herself how lucky she was to have a pony instead of chewed shoes by a puppy, or stuff torn up by a little sister, or having to clean a swimming pool.

Moral of today's story: It's usually sweeter to shovel your own pony poop than that which belongs to your friend!

Friday - Briefly

Shopped. Paid bills. Picked up Marilyn from the airport. Ate dinner - a lot of it. Facebook stalked people. Planned to write amazing blog post, but didn't.

Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Ya Gotta Start Sometime

Yesterday was National Running Day. Many people ran yesterday - I wasn't one of them. After only a few hours sleep the night before, spending 10 or so hours in the car, unpacking, and eating dinner, I could barely keep my eyes open, much less put one foot in front of the other.

So, I decided to start today. I spent the morning catching up on sleep and making up excuses as to why I wasn't outside doing my National Running Day jog. Finally around noon, I decided enough was enough, got dressed, and went outside. My plan was to jog, but once outside, I decided it was too hot. Florida in June can be that way. Instead, I walked around the resort complex. I don't know exactly how far it was, but it was a start.

I've started and restarted so many times already this year, that it probably seems silly to even think that today's amble could be the beginning of anything. But I'm hoping it is. All I can do is try. Again.

So maybe I participated in National Running Day a day late. But maybe I didn't. Because maybe when you do something that will hopefully change your life, it's never too late. Maybe once you begin, it's exactly the right time.

The Suitcase Made It

And so did I - on vacation, that is. After going to bed last night around 2am, getting up before 5am, driving (well, riding in the car) all day (and taking about sixty 15 minute naps), we are now settled at Disney's Old Key West.

Now one of us is going to bed. There are Mickey Bars to be eaten tomorrow!
