Skagway

My favorite stop in Alaska.  It just seems like such a picturesque place!  Anyhow, again I'll just post pictures - you just really have to come see it for yourself!!

Charity and Molly preparing to go zip lining - um, no - I skipped out on that excursion ...

The ship in port - beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!

For my pals Denise and Kat - although I think a Disney cruise is the only way to get here ...

The veiew from downtown to the port - and my home away from home!!

Today was a great day because:  the weather was clear and cool; I got to shop in downtown Skagway; lunch with Molly and Charity

Tracy Arm, Alaska

Rather than attempt to describe all the cool things we saw today, I will just post pictures, although even those don't sufficiently depict the absolute beauty of God's creation in Tracy Arm, Alaska.

Character Breakfast!! You figure out who are the characters ...

It was cold!!  And wet!!  So the soup in a bread bowl and the hot chocolate were yummy!!

Getting a picture of the glacier from the veranda.

The seals!!  I'm not sure who was looking at whom ...

We saw a whale tale (we assume the rest of it was under the water ....).

The waterfall - the sound was almost as beautiful as the sight of it!

The glacier - beautiful!!!

Today was a great day because:  although the day was cold and wet, we saw some beautiful sights including seals, the glacier, and whales; I won $38 and a Captain Mickey doll at Bingo

See Ya Later Vacouver!!

So today we left Vancouver headed for Alaska.  The day was very foggy and we only had a few clear hours midday.  As always, the views are stunning and so peaceful.

Our tablemates are (I am unsure about the spellings): Hi, Way, and Z (Way and Z are women, and we think Hi and Way are married); and Mike, Sue (they are married) and their adult daughter Sophie, who are from England.  It’s sort of a mixed group, but we manage to chat with each other.

Molly, Charity, and I have found our peeps – people that we saw on Embarkation Day and keep seeing around the ship.  Mine are a couple and the man did the Disneyland Half Marathon (as evidenced by the medals we carried the first day).  He always looks a little puzzled ….

Molly’s peeps are the family who took our picture for us while we all were waiting to board, and the young couple who are on their first Disney cruise and are super-excited to be on the cruise.  And they talk – a lot.

Charity’s peeps are the Dippy Dog and their momma Dizzy.  Here are their descriptions;  while waiting to board, Dippy kept a bottle close so he could spit his dip into it (seriously).  Unfortunately he was just two seats away from Charity.  He was also wearing a “Southern by the grace of God” t-shirt.  And when we saw him dressed up for dinner, he had on a suit – and his camo cap.  He is of adult age and so is his brother.  Mama Dizzy carries a cane and looks like she ain’t gonna take no mess off nobody.  So even though I think Molly and Charity should meet them, they won’t take me up on it.

Anyhow, it’s been a great start to the cruise.  We’ve dined at Palo for brunch, attended the DVC and Castaway Cay reception, taken a nap or two, and Charity saw some whales.  And no, it wasn’t me napping on the deck chair!

Today was a great day because:  We got laundry done; we had a great meal and server in Palo; we got surprises and passed our surprises for the FE exchange; we chatted with our table mates; Charity saw whales; we won the tv tunes trivia game!

Whaddaya Say?

Today Molly, Charity, and I boarded the Disney Magic, and headed straight for the lunch buffet.  After completely stuffing ourselves, we walked around the ship to give Charity a quick tour (this being her first Disney cruise).  We read “The Navigator” (the ship’s daily guide to what’s happening about the ship) and discovered the spa was giving a special on a foot/ankle/shoulder/neck/head massage and decided we should partake of said special.  After all, what could be a better start to our cruise (especially after a 13.1 mile race) than to be massaged into restful, relaxation mode?  So I toddled off to the spa and booked all three of us this activity for 4:30, right after the emergency drill.

After making sure we knew where and how to board our lifeboat in the case of an emergency, we headed for the spa and got prepared for our pampering.

My masseuse weighed about 12 pounds and looked to be younger than I wanted to think about.  But after brushing my legs and arms with a stiff-bristle brush and washing my feet with a hot wet towel (maybe my legs and feet were hairier and dirtier than I thought), she started her magic.  In other words, she was great, kneading and working around all the tight areas.

As she was starting, she poured what I can only surmise was melted hot Vaseline on my back (sure, I know it was oil, but it was much warmer and thicker  than the stuff my massage envy masseuse of the month squirts out of his/her belt squirter).   Although I was a little bit surprised at the warmth and amount, it did feel quite good, and pretty soon I felt like a greased pig.

As she was finishing up, Little One asked me if I minded oil in my hair (or something to that effect – I was pretty much in a massage coma at that point).  I said that no, I didn’t mind, thinking she meant that she still had some liquid Vaseline on her hands and it might get on my hair.

But that wasn’t what she meant.  I knew this as soon as I felt the leftover liquid Vaseline being poured on the hairline of my hair.  For the next 10 minutes Little One worked it into as much of the rest of my hair as possible, pouring every last bit into my hair in order to continue to massage my scalp.

Soon she was finished and dinged her little “wake up lazy butt” chime.  She went out to get me a swig of water and for me to reclothe myself.  I looked in the mirror even though I knew what I would be seeing, and was not disappointed.  The top of my head hair was an oily matted glob and the rest was sticking straight out in every direction.  In other words, I was a scary mess.

I managed (using my fingers as a comb) to at least calm down the wild parts to hang with the oily parts and head to the changing room to find Molly and Charity.  Who promptly asked, “Do you know what your hair looks like?”  Just before they died laughing hysterically.

Anyhow, after shampooing my hair twice, I think I may have gotten some of the liquid Vaseline out.  I’m just not sure if Molly and Charity will ever stop laughing …

Today was a great day because:  Molly went out a got me Starbucks and Tim Hortons; we took a cab to the port rather than walking; we upgraded to a little bigger cabin; we saw lots of interesting people; we have pretty decent tablemates; we got our bags before dinner and got unpacked; I got a wonderful jacket from John and Anne

Putting the Dumb in Dumbo ...

As I sit here in my hotel room in Vancouver, the events of this morning seem forever ago.  At least until I get up from the chair and try to move to the bed - the muscles and joints remind me that I wogged 6 miles yesterday and 13.1 today in order to complete the Dumbo Double Dare.  But it was great fun - well, sort of.  Charity did her first half-marathon and Molly beat us both (both today and yesterday).  Once we were all back in the room, we cleaned up and packed up and headed to LAX to board an Air Canada jet for Vancouver, where we will board the Disney Wonder tomorrow for 7 days touring Alaska!!  Now that's worth wogging a few miles!!

Today was a great day because: I finished the half-marathon; Charity finished her first half-marathon; Molly finished; we got to LAX in plenty of time for our flight; we had a safe, smooth flight with in-flight tv on Air Canada; we watched the drama when some dude pushed back his seat and the lady spilled her coffee all over herself; we rode the train to downtown Vancouver and looked lost until a kindly couple showed us where to go to get to the hotel; we had an excellent dinner at Cactus Club Cafe
