Flying Time (In One Way Or Another)

Yup, it's time to do a little travelling. Tomorrow Molly and I head south for a little bit of Mickey and a few wogging miles. I'm actually ahead of the game, since the house is relatively picked up and I even have a bag packed. We're meeting Marilyn down there and will see Katie (who will also be doing a few miles) and Nancy. We're leaving at crack-of-dawn-thirty in the morning (because we like cheap flights), so I guess it's good that I'm packed.

Most of our race weekends are planned months in advance. When we sign up for them, that particular race weekend seems like eons away. I always think (okay, fantasize) about how ready I will be for that particular race because I will have trained (insert laugh track here). And then I blink and that race weekend is here. Time flew and my goal (dream, fantasy, whatever) flew away with it.

Sometimes I look at Lindley and Everley and am amazed at how big they are getting. It seems like yesterday they were little babies. Or even toddlers. Now they're little girls with their own ideas. They're delightful and true blessings, and another indicator of how fast time passes.

And then there's the milk. There's no better indicator of time as when you go to purchase milk, because it's stamped right there on the jug. It screams at you that yes, the end of the month is coming quickly, and you'd better get to drinking this milk. The worst is when it's not even the middle of the month, but close, and the stamp is for the first of next month. Panic sets in (well, for me anyway) because of (a) all the things that I haven't gotten done this month, therefore (b) I've got a boatload of stuff I've got to get done this month, because (c) there's a ton of stuff I've got to get done next month. I don't even drink milk, probably because I don't like the milk jug judgment I get.

I supposed I could talk about getting older and all the signs that point to that, but why bother? The fact is that time is passing as we speak. We can bemoan it if we want, but all that does is rob us of those moments that are flying past us. As race weekends and milk jugs reach their due dates and as little girls grow up, the best we can do is enjoy each moment. Because God has given us those moments as gifts, and our best way of thanks to Him is to relish ever second of every moment we have.

Confession Time

Okay, so I'm officially waaaay behind. You know it and I know it. I'm as behind as I've ever been. It's even been suggested that perhaps I should stop blogging altogether. I know - desperate times call for desperate measures.

But I'm not going to stop. I am going to get caught up (and I'm also going to exercise on a regular basis and eat sensibly, but first things first). So that means the next several posts will be quick and about much of nothing. But I will get caught up.  Why? Well, let me give you a few reasons ...

1. If I am going to call myself a writer (which I do on occasion), I have to write. It's like if I'm going to call myself a runner, I need to run (hence the reason I don't call myself a runner). I have to practice writing every day so that I don't stop writing. Because for me, writing is like anything else that people do to get better at whatever they're trying to do.

2. I have to get caught up because I am anal retentive like that. I need something in my life that is in order and regular. And this seems like an easy one to do. Or at least it seemed like it was ...

3. I have to get caught up because if I don't, I will stop writing altogether. And probably replace the writing thing with eating Ding Dongs or Little Debbie Current Season Snack Cakes.

4. I have to get caught up because one day I might have a brilliant idea for a blog post, and if I've quit, then the world will not get to read this brilliant blog post. And how sad would that be? I am totally concerned about the world and its reading.

5. I have to get caught up because then one part of my life will be back on track and I can focus on getting the other parts back on track. Because some of those parts have not only totally derailed, but have fallen off the track and crashed and burned. So I've got to start somewhere.

So in conclusion, I shall get this party started. Now to surf the 'net for those cute kitty videos ...

Yup, That's Me

Yes, I grew up on a farm in Mississippi and no, we did not eat dirt. Yes, I had toys to play with and no, those toys were not corn-shuck dolls and whittlin' cars. Yes, my parents were sober, responsible people and no, they had not left me unsupervised.

But apparently on this day, they decided that letting their daughter play to her heart's content in a mud pile was not only okay, but worth documenting. And obviously worth encouraging, since I seemed to be having a pretty good time. Now that's some pretty good parenting.

I just wonder who was in charge of cleanup ...

Let It Go

Once upon a time, there were two sisters. The older one was sort of the boss. Apparently she could also create snowmen. The younger one sort of followed orders and always wanted to play with the older one. And build snowmen. And then they grew up. And one could have run away and built her own ice castle. And the other one could have met some dude and wanted to marry him an hour later. And they could have saved their hometown from eternal winter.

They just could never figure out who would sing the signature song ...

No, No, No - It's November!!

I could bemoan the passage of 2014 and how there are only two months left in the year. I could discuss my failure to achieve any goals/resolutions that I might have made this year. I could wail about how time is passing by quicker and quicker. I could, but why bother? It is what it is.  And it is November.

Specifically that means that Christmas is coming soon. If I choose to do a make-it this year (and I have a few ideas in mind), I need to get with the program. But I also have a few bazillion other projects/things/ideas that need to be done, so it's going to take some prioritizing. But I also have a few trips planned, and those have priority, unless I plan to take along a project or two along (I won't). So it's time for list making. And calendar planning.  Because it's November.

Meanwhile, here's today's photo. It's Marilyn and me at a Disney 5K a few years ago. This time next week we'll be doing another. As you can see, we take these races very seriously. And we're obviously very proud of our time.

Happy November - don't blink, because if you do, you're going to find that it will be December (and I think you can make your bets on what I get done by then!).
